How to get to Merzouga
Merzouga is remote and there is no shortcut. Here are all the realistic options, with times that reflect how long the journey actually takes rather than what a mapping app predicts.

By air
Errachidia (ERH) is the closest airport, about two hours away, with domestic connections. Ouarzazate (OZZ) is around five hours. Most international visitors fly into Marrakech (RAK) or Fes (FEZ) and travel overland, which is slower but takes you through the Atlas and the Ziz valley — arguably part of the experience rather than a cost of it.
There are no flights to Merzouga itself. If you have searched for them, that is why you found nothing.
By bus
Supratours and CTM both run long-distance coaches into this region. Services generally reach Rissani or Erfoud, and some go through to Merzouga itself depending on the season and the day. They are cheap, reasonably comfortable and slow. Book ahead in high season.
If your bus terminates in Rissani or Erfoud, tell us — we will collect you. It is 35 to 45 minutes.
By private transfer
The simplest option, and what most of our guests choose. We can arrange a car and driver from Errachidia, Erfoud, Rissani, Fes, Marrakech or Ouarzazate. Message us with where you are coming from and how many of you there are and we will quote it — the price depends on distance and vehicle size, so we will not pretend there is one number.
Driving yourself
The roads are paved the whole way and in decent condition. A normal car is fine; you do not need a 4×4 to reach us and we have free parking.
- Do not drive the mountain roads at night if you can avoid it — unlit, winding, and shared with trucks.
- Fill up when you can. Petrol stations thin out considerably south of Errachidia.
- Watch for the last kilometre. Coming into Merzouga the tarmac gives way to sandy tracks in places. Keep your speed down and do not follow a mapping app off the road onto sand.
- Speed cameras are real and enforcement in Morocco is active. The limits change frequently through villages.
